Director:  Brian Kelly and Cilla Ware

Synopsis:  Loch Ness, a.k.a. The Loch, is the 2017 Acorn TV Original mystery starring Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey) and Laura Fraser (The Missing).    In the sleepy little fictional town of Lochnafoy, tourists flock to catch a glimpse of the Loch Ness Monster.  Unfortunately, Nessy is not the monster they find.

Loch Ness is another inspired U.K. Drama in the vein of Broadchurch and Shetland, where a quaint little town finds that nobody really knows their neighbors.

DS Annie Redford (Laura Fraser) is married to Alan Redford (Gray O’Brien) who runs one of the tour boats on the loch.  She is called in from her day off when Craig Petrie (Alastair Mackenzie) finds the body of Niall Swift when he is on a morning jog.  What at first is thought to be a tragic accident is eventually discovered to be a brutal murder.  Since this is such a rare occurrence in this small town, DCI Lauren Quigley (Siobhan Finneran) is called in to lead the investigation.

The six part miniseries moves at a steadily increasing pace with a new suspect at every turn, which keeps the audience guessing.  From the town outsider (he’s only lived in the town for about 5 years) to the local doctor, everyone has a secret and is willing to do almost anything to keep them.  Nobody knows who they can trust.  One by one, secrets are revealed and, in some cases, lives are destroyed.

The twists and turns of the story hold the interest of the audience throughout, keeping them guessing which is a real clue and which is a red herring, while trying to figure out who is the real monster in Lochnafoy.  It is also a cautionary tale warning the viewer that their are consequences to their actions and that no one can truly escape their past.

Whether you are an Anglophile or not, this miniseries is well worth your time.
